Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
